860 mLille Vildmosecentret is located in the heart of Lille Vildmose and makes a practical first stop before you drive or walk further into the open bog landscape. Here, children and adults can learn the names of some of the things they may catch a glimpse of later: moose, red deer, eagles, wild boar and the bog’s distinctive plants.
Indoors and outdoors, the centre focuses on nature interpretation, films, exhibitions and activities for children. The exhibitions cover topics including how the bog formed, people in the bog, and animals and plants. Admission also includes access to facilities such as a cinema, wild boar, a nature playground, a water playground, a bog bounce pillow and an eagle simulator.
On selected days during the season, the old Peat Train runs from the centre to Birkesø. It offers a way to get out into the landscape without having to find your way first, and links the centre’s interpretation to the birdlife and the restored bog outside.
At reception, staff can help with maps, tips and ideas for trips in the area. This is useful because Lille Vildmose is not a small park with one set route, but a vast landscape of raised bog, forest, lakes and meadows, where you may spot animals from roads, towers and viewpoints if you are lucky.
