In the heart of Hvide Sande, just a long stone's throw from the main street, you will find the old, charming Tyskerhavn.
Tyskerhavnen is actually the oldest part of the fishing town. It was established as early as 1912 to sail materials in for the construction of the large sluice.
The name Æ Tyskerhavn has no connection to the Second World War, but arose when people farther up the spit, back in the 20th century, teasingly called the dune dwellers to the south Germans.
Experience life at Tyskerhavnen
Many locals with ties to Tyskerhavnen go about their daily lives on the quay and in the old original tool sheds.
Stop by Tyskerhavnen when you go on an excursion. You can enjoy your lunch at one of the table and bench sets provided, with views of both the dinghy harbour and Ringkøbing Fjord.
The many black, grey, green and red tool sheds are very much part of what gives Tyskerhavnen its distinctive character. Although many of them have today been converted into small holiday homes, both the soul and the cosy atmosphere of the place have been preserved.
Even today, the fjord fishermen land their catch daily at Tyskerhavnen, where there is plenty of activity from early morning. Often you can buy fresh fish at a good price and have a little chat along the way.
