Tärnö – genuine archipelago idyll

Tärnö is the largest island in the Karlshamn archipelago. Its old fishing and farming communities have left traces in the form of net enclosures and stone walls. On the island, you can also find remains from the Stone Age, the Iron Age and the Viking Age. From an active fishing community to an important pilot station in the 20th century, Tärnö has a long history.

Today, the island is a nature reserve, home to a wealth of flora and fauna, including oak forests and various red-listed species. During the summer, there is a ferry connection to Tärnö from both Karlshamn and Matvik, and there are dining options as well as several barbecue areas.

The island offers various accommodation options, from lakeside cabins to glamping tents, all with a focus on sustainability. From the island, you can also experience the surrounding landscape by rowing boat or fishing kayak.

Tärnö Lighthouse

An authentic archipelago idyll, reaching toward the sky from Iberget since 1910. With its magnificent view over half of Blekinge’s coast, it stands as a timeless symbol of the island’s rich history and its former role as an important pilot station in the first half of the 20th century.

Drakaberget, the island’s highest point

From the island’s highest point, Drakaberget, you can see more than half of Blekinge’s coast and the caves in the mountains that the island’s inhabitants in olden times believed were marks left by a dragon that lived there.

Øens flora

Tärnö er frodig med ædle løvskove, klippeområder og græsmarker. Floraen er domineret af gamle egetræer, vild kaprifol og bjørnebærbuske. Men der er også plads til mange vilde blomsterarter.
