The Experimental Garden in Tarm

Play among grass, hills and ball games

Forsøgshaven is not a park where children have to stay at the edge of the lawn. Here, play, ball games and small nature corners are closely connected, so a visit can shift between speed, balance, music, sensory impressions and a break by the tables.

The place works best as an informal utility park: grandparents can find a bench, children can try the activities, and exercise enthusiasts can use the garden without it losing its everyday character.

Wilder than it looks

The garden has flower beds, wild grass areas, brushwood fences, a pond and beehives, so nature is not just decoration around the playground. For children, it offers something concrete to notice on a short visit: insects, plants, water and the slightly more untidy places where things are actually happening.

Bird sculptures with small stories

One of the garden’s more unusual features is the colourful art birds in plexiglass, created by Ulla Haussø with inspiration from the birds in Skjern Enge. QR codes with stories are placed by the birds, turning them into small stops along the way rather than decoration you simply walk past.

The name Forsøgshaven still remains for good reason. In the past, the “experiment” was about cultivation and demonstration gardening; today it is about how much play, nature, staying space and local community can fit into one green pocket in the middle of Tarm.
