Tambours Have is located on Bredmosevej by Karlsgårde Lake and is a public garden open seasonally from 1 May to 30 September. Parking is close to the entrance, and the garden has both a café and the option to eat your own packed food.
Dogs are welcome on a leash, and there is a water bowl by the café. Wheelchair users should be aware that parts of the garden are not accessible, although disabled parking and an accessible toilet are available by the parking area.
The garden is divided into Lillehaven, Langhaven, Storhaven, Japanhaven and Medicinhaven. This creates a walk where the atmosphere changes along the way: old trees, colourful flower beds, Japanese-inspired stone settings, different levels, water and plants with a medicinal theme.
Between Lillehaven and Japanhaven is the orangery, with citrus trees, palms and other plants that might otherwise struggle to thrive in the climate of western Jutland. In summer, it is also used for concerts, exhibitions and events.
The site did not begin as a park, but as a small plot of land by the lake, where master tailor Gerhard Tambour and his wife Olga initially had fishing, hunting and a hut. The open heathland was sheltered by newly planted trees, and over time the kitchen garden and fruit trees were replaced by rare trees, exotic plants and a garden that still bears the mark of having been built layer by layer.
The Lantern Festival in Tambours Have is held after dark: a long-standing late-summer or autumn evening, when Tambours Have’s Friends place around 1,000 live candles in the flowerbeds.
The program has typically included musical performances, a guided tour of the garden, and a cake table. The orangery is open, and children can bake twist bread at the fire hut. This is not just an ordinary evening opening, but one of the garden’s recurring events, where the green spaces by Karlsgårde Lake gain shadows, flames, and new edges.
The Craft Festival turns Tambours Have into more than flowerbeds and old trees for a weekend. Creative stalls fill the garden with arts and crafts, techniques, and sales booths, and visitors can not only look on, but also try something themselves.
Among other things, glass art, floral decorations, and ceramics are mentioned. The announced edition in 2025 took place on 21-22 June from 10-16, so dates should be read as event information and not as a fixed calendar rule.
