16 kmSvanholm Lake is a nature spot where children do more than just look at the water. There is a nature playground with a zip line and a mini Tarzan course, and nearby you’ll find bench tables, a barbecue, a fire pit and a covered picnic shelter. That makes it an easy place for an outing with room to run, eat and take a break without packing half the house.
The lake lies in a former brown coal pit, giving the area a somewhat different backdrop than the classic forest lake. The water lies like a calm mirror in a landscape shaped by excavation and later returned to nature. Paths run around the lake, so a visit can be more than just a stop at a table.
For anglers, there is free rod fishing from the marked stretches along the shore, but normally a state fishing licence is required. The shelter site is open and close to the lake, and the municipal shelters can be booked in advance. Svanholm Lake is therefore both a short family trip, a fishing trip and a simple night outdoors — all on the same edge of the water.
