Svanholm Lake is a nature spot where children do more than just look at the water. There is a nature playground with a zip line and a mini Tarzan course, and nearby you will find picnic tables and benches, a barbecue, a campfire area and a covered packed-lunch shelter. That makes the place ideal for an outing where you can run around, eat and take a break without packing half the house.
The lake lies in a former lignite mine, giving the area a background a little different from the classic forest lake. The water sits like a calm mirror in a landscape shaped by excavation and later returned to nature. There are paths around the lake, so a visit can be more than just a spot by a table.
For anglers, there is free rod fishing from the marked stretches along the shore, but in general a state fishing licence is required. The shelter site is open and close to the lake, and the municipal shelters can be booked in advance. Svanholm Lake is therefore both a short family trip, a fishing trip and a simple overnight stay in the open air — all on the same lakeshore.
