The bog is located by the village of Sølsted, about 9 km north of Tønder. In the bog there are a number of footpaths and wheel tracks. A marked 2.5 km hiking route starts from the car park and takes visitors on a beautiful walk around the bog. Along the way, several ponds are passed, and two bird hides with benches have been built, from where you can sit and watch the birds.
Sølsted Bog is one of the rare heath bogs of Southern Jutland, with its own special birdlife. The bog’s open areas are home to characteristic birds such as the Eurasian teal, wood sandpiper, common snipe (in some years more than 10 pairs), and, in some years, the Montagu’s harrier.
The best time to visit is spring and summer. Rubber boots are a very good idea, and in summer mosquito repellent is a must.
