3.9 kmThe festival ground in Skovsende Plantage may, at first glance, look like an entirely ordinary clearing. What makes it special is what is known about the place: people from Starup Parish gathered here, and the area had both everyday social and church-related life. The quiet forest floor therefore carries a different weight than a random resting spot between the trees.
Today the place is especially a good starting point for a marked red route eastward along Holme Å. The route passes through forest and river-adjacent landscape and goes by, among other things, a fish farm, two bridges and the primitive overnight site at Hesselho. It is a route where the local history of the festival ground quickly turns into water, forest edges and the more open river valley landscape.
The festival ground also lies on the Coast to Coast Trail, which follows streams and river valleys across Jutland. Here the place is not a large, designed destination, but a small point with a rather unusual fate: a former gathering place that almost disappeared into the forest and was later rediscovered after storm damage and clearing work.
The overnight stay site by Hesselho is the simple end of the trip from Festpladsen in Skovsende: one shelter, a small tent site, and views over meadow and river valley.
There is a fire pit, picnic table and benches, waste bin, and toilet, but no tap water at the site itself. Water is available at Hovborgvej 109 about 300–400 meters away. The site cannot be booked, and access is on foot via the red route from Hovborgvej or the Coast to Coast Trail.
