Shelter Site by Karlsgårde Lake

A simple stop by the lakeshore

The shelter site is located right by Karlsgårde Lake near Bredmosevej in the Sig area and is first and foremost a practical resting place on the Coast to Coast Trail. There is not much polished outdoor luxury here: grass for your tent, shelter from the shelter, space to cook by the fire, and the lake close enough that the place also makes sense for those arriving by water.

When the day’s stage ends

The site cannot be booked, so overnight stays depend on who arrives first. That makes it best suited to hikers and outdoor enthusiasts who can live with the primitive logic: arrive, find an open spot, and settle in according to the conditions. Canoes can moor at the site, and parking is located immediately next to it.

The lake is not quite as natural as it looks

Karlsgårde Lake at first appears to be a quiet lake in the river valley landscape, but it is man-made and connected to hydropower, a dam, canals, and the regulation of the streams. That gives the shelter site a slightly unusual backdrop: a night in nature by a lake that is itself a technical intervention in the landscape.
