Church space with folded walls

From the outside, Sædden Church keeps a low profile in red bricks and stays close to everyday life in Sædding Centret. Inside, the experience changes character: the church space is square, and two of the tall outer walls are shaped with soft folds, giving the room small apse-like niches and a special acoustic calm.

Light from above and from the ceiling

Light is a major part of the experience. Skylight shafts draw daylight down into the room, while the many suspended incandescent bulbs create a starry sky beneath the ceiling. Together with the brickwork, the wood and the heavy beams, this creates a modern church that does not try to look like a village church, yet still works with space, rhythm and weight.

A church built for everyday life

The architect couple Inger and Johannes Exner designed the church as more than a Sunday room. The parish rooms are located together with the church space, and access can be gained both from outside and from the centre via a transverse foyer. To the left of the entrance, four medieval bricks from the mother church in Guldager are built into the wall; a small, physical link between the new district and the older church tradition.
