Large wetland area with trails, birdlife and cable ferries, offering the same calm type of nature.
Røjklit Harbour is located at the southern end of Stadil Fjord, a little away from the most obvious roads. The experience here is not big and noisy, but quiet: boats along the shore, open water in front of you, and a landscape where your gaze can travel far.
From the harbour, you can orient yourself by Hindø out in the fjord, Stadil Church in the landscape, and the dunes to the west. That gives the place a special edge: you stand by a “fjord” that is actually a lake, with the dune landscape of West Jutland visible on the horizon.
Røjklit Harbour is especially suitable for short stops: a packed lunch, a quiet break on a bike ride, or a pause where you simply follow the water and the birds for a while. In the morning and evening, the area can offer fine birdwatching moments, including when geese move between fields and open water.
Hindø is protected and is mentioned as a good place for bird enthusiasts by Stadil Fjord. From the harbour, the island becomes part of the view, not necessarily a place you need to go to.
The harbour is also part of outdoor life around Stadil Fjord, including as a stop for cyclists and rowers. When sailing by canoe or kayak, the fjords of West Jutland are worth taking seriously: wind can create short, powerful waves that are quickly felt in small vessels.
The shelter site at Røjklit Harbour is located at the southern end of Stadil Fjord and has three shelters built like tipis. The shape is not the only practical feature: there is a fire pit with grill grate, a covered dining shelter with tables and benches, a toilet, water by the toilet building, and an outdoor kitchen counter.
The site can be booked via the Danish Nature Agency’s booking page. Røjklit Harbour is also used as a resting point for rowers and kayakers, so shelter life is very close to the fjord traffic at low level.
