Outrup Church

The church’s chancel and nave are Romanesque, while the apse and tower date from the Late Middle Ages (rebuilt in 1795). The porch dates from 1870. The apse’s ‘king post’ is adorned with a very distinctive helmeted head, which, like the roof, is made of lead.

According to legend, the church’s apse was built as penance for a misdeed. In the late medieval altar table there is a saint’s grave with a small reliquary containing a fragment of bone.

Since the Reformation, Outrup Church has served as an annex to Lunde Church, and its furnishings are highly reminiscent of those in Lunde Church. Thus, the altarpiece from the beginning of the 17th century was probably made in the same workshop as that of Lunde Church.
