Svanesøen lies by Grønningen in the southern part of Ølgod, where the lake is part of a recreational park area. It is not vast wilderness, but precisely a small nature break close to town: a water surface, reed beds and the quiet life along the shore.
Here you can keep an eye out for mute swans, reeds, aquatic plants and the small creatures that live beneath the surface. The lake is shallow, which makes it interesting for amphibians and other small aquatic animals. For children, a net by the water’s edge can make the lake tangible in just a few minutes, but it is also a place where you should move respectfully around animals and plants.
Svanesøen is artificially created, but it is also a protected lake. That says something about the place’s slightly unusual character: a planned park area that over time has become a small living wetland. In 2024, work was carried out on plans for partial dredging and mowing of reeds and bulrushes to maintain a more open water surface and provide better conditions for light-loving plants and animals. In the northern part, water soldier and the green mosaic dragonfly have been recorded, so even an urban lake can involve very specific nature considerations.
