17 kmMarsk Tower stands by Marsk Camp in Hjemsted near Skærbæk, where the flat land suddenly gains a vertical axis. From the top, the view opens all the way around over the marsh and Wadden Sea National Park; in clear weather, your gaze reaches Ribe, Rømø and Sylt.
The tower was designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and is not just a platform on stilts. Its shape is a double helix with one way up and another way down, so the flow of visitors does not meet on the stairs. This gives the structure an almost sculptural logic: you move in a spiral while the landscape slowly unfolds.
The dark Corten steel stands out clearly against grass, sky and horizon, but the material was chosen as part of the interplay with the open marsh landscape. Here, architecture is not hidden away; it stands as a deliberate landmark.
The view requires that you can take the stairs, as the lift is closed for an indefinite period according to Marsk Camp. The tower may also be closed in bad weather, and dogs are not allowed up. At Marsk Camp there are, among other things, toilets, an accessible toilet, a children's area and food options, so the tower visit can be combined with a more relaxed break on the ground.
