Lydum Mill is located by Lydum Stream, where hydropower, milling and local electricity supply have been linked in an unusually concrete way. Here it is not only the buildings that tell the story, but also the location: the stream was the very prerequisite for both the grain mill and the small power station that later grew up on the site.
During open house events, visitors can hear about the DC power station and see an operational machine park with two Francis turbines and two diesel engines. It is technology on a scale where you can still understand the connection between water, shafts, motors and light in local houses. The power station is described as fully functional, but after changes to the stream's water supply it can only run for demonstration purposes.
The courtyard is shared with buildings that once housed an egg packing facility and a grocery shop, making the place more than a technical installation. It was also a local hub where trade, energy and everyday life stood side by side. Today the surroundings are also arranged for stays by the stream, and it is possible to launch a canoe and head towards Bork Havn. The small landscape around the mill shows how closely the industrial history here is tied to the course of the stream.
