Kirstinelyst - the gateway to Randbøl Hede

From shelter to heath

Kirstinelyst lies on the edge of Randbøl Hede and serves as a practical place to arrive before the heath takes over. From here, the paths lead directly out into the open heathland, so you can begin with the indoor exhibition and continue with heather, grass heath and dunes beneath your feet.

An exhibition with soil under its fingernails

The exhibition is not only about nature on neat display boards, but also about the lives of the heath farmers, the area's animals and plants, and the stories connected to Randbøl Hede. This makes the place well suited as a short introduction for both locals out walking and families who would like a little more to look for out on the heath.

The building hides on purpose

The nature room is built on the footprint of the old heath farm Kirstinelyst, partly sheltered and hidden by vegetation. The façades and roof are clad with heather turf from the heath, while glass sections and sliding doors open the building towards the landscape. The most unusual remnant, however, comes from a completely different time: a gable with two chimneys, used for a German field kitchen in the final months of the Second World War.
