Kirstinelyst - the gateway to Randbøl Heath

From shelter to heath

Kirstinelyst lies on the edge of Randbøl Heath and serves as a practical place to arrive before the heath takes over. From here, the trails lead directly out into the open heathland, so you can begin with the exhibition under a roof and continue with heather, grass heath, and dunes beneath your feet.

An exhibition with dirt under its nails

The exhibition is not just about nature in neat displays, but also about the life of the heath farmers, the area's animals and plants, and the stories connected to Randbøl Heath. This makes the place well suited as a short prelude for both locals on a walk and families who want a little more to look at out on the heath.

The building hides on purpose

The nature space is built on the footprint of the old heath property Kirstinelyst, partly sheltered from the wind and hidden by vegetation. Facades and roof are clad with heather turf from the heath, while glass sections and sliding doors open the building toward the landscape. The most unusual remnant, however, comes from a completely different time: a gable with two chimneys, used for a German field kitchen in the last months of the Second World War.
