Views with a little patience

Kirkebyvadtårnet is a birdwatching and viewing tower by Filsø, where the lake, meadows and birdlife lie open before you. It is a place for relaxed observation through binoculars: cormorants may sit in the trees in and along the lake to dry their plumage, while flocks of geese, swans, golden plovers and ducks rest in the area when the season is right.

Otters and birds without disturbance

From the tower, there are good opportunities to see otters, and several pairs breed at Filsø. The birdwatching towers by the lake are positioned so that visitors can observe the birdlife without getting too close. Birds of prey such as ospreys, marsh harriers, hen harriers and peregrine falcons may also appear in the area at different times of the year, so the sky is almost as worth watching as the water.

The way there

There is no car park right by the tower. One indicated access route starts at Henne Church, from where you continue along the farm track on the opposite side of Strandvejen; sources give varying distances from just over 1.5 km to approximately 3 km. The tower can also be reached from a small car park at Tejnebjerg on Porsmosevej via a trail along Henne Mølleå. In any case, Kirkebyvadtårnet is not a stop you make in passing, but a viewpoint you walk or cycle to.
