A family day that got the lake going

For many years, Karlsgårde Day was the day when the path around Karlsgårde Lake turned into a chain of small activity stations. Families could move from place to place and try their hand at outdoor life, association activities and nature experiences without admission. It was not a fair with distance between people and things, but a day where children and adults could get their hands on it themselves.

Status and direction

The event is not being held in 2025. According to the official site, Karlsgårde Day is also not continuing in its previous form, and work is instead underway on a possible new outdoor festival concept in Varde Municipality. So the place here is just as much a key to the area around the lake as to the event tradition itself.

When there is no event

Karlsgårde Lake is still an easily accessible excursion destination with the Heart Trail around the water. The route alternates between grazed heath, dark conifer forest and open beech forest, and in two places the trail crosses the water via bridges over tributaries to the lake. The lake is artificial and was created for hydropower, so the landscape is both a natural site and a technical cultural trace. This is especially felt in the meeting between the dam, the water surface and the quieter stretches of forest.
