Hodde Old School is not a large museum, but that is precisely what makes the place so powerful. The thatched building is located close to Hodde Church, and inside the classroom are desks, a teacher’s desk, blackboards, slates, schoolbooks and educational wall charts, as if the lesson has simply been put on pause.
The room offers a tangible glimpse into everyday school life, where children learned in a small village school, and where school life had to fit around the work and seasons of the local area. Here, it is not the display cases, but the room itself that tells the story.
Access is self-service via a code: by the door there is a telephone number you can call to get the code. Food may be enjoyed outside the school, not in the classroom.
