Henne Strand is the kind of beach where there is room enough for swimwear, kites and long looks toward the horizon. The sand is fine, the beach is wide, and the sea gives the place its rhythm: quiet summer days, strong surf and evenings when the light falls low over the water.
The beach is an official bathing beach on the North Sea, and the bathing water quality is classified as excellent in the latest bathing water profile. At the same time, this is not a sea to take lightly. Conditions can change quickly, the water generally becomes deep fast, and sandbars, currents and undertows can arise with the weather and the tide.
Henne Strand also serves as a base for more than beach life. Behind the coast lie dunes, heath and forest, and Blåbjerg Plantage is reached by a short drive with marked hiking routes, bridle paths and a mountain bike trail. To the south lies Henne Mølle Å as a calmer contrast to the surf; the stream rises in Filsø and flows out into the sea. Here, holiday town, car-free beach and West Jutland nature meet without many intermediaries.
Henne Mølle Å is the outflow from Filsø toward the North Sea and lies south of Henne Strand. At the coast, it is not just a calm stream: currents, waves, wind, and sand shape the landscape and can change the mouth of the stream.
The stream connects the beach with Filsø’s restored lake, meadows, marshes, and dune heath. It is a small watercourse with a big backstory — from inland lake to the North Sea, through an area where nature rarely stands still.
