Henne Kirkeby Kro

Michelin dining in a thatched setting

Henne Kirkeby Kro is not a roadside inn you simply drop into for a quick bite. The thatched building in Henne Kirkeby houses a two-Michelin-star restaurant, whose cuisine MICHELIN describes as classic and which it highlights for both farm-to-table dining and meals for two.

The contrast is a big part of the experience: from the outside, the inn still looks like it belongs in a village in western Jutland, while the interior has been modernised. Its location between Henne Stationsby and Henne Strand makes it a notable gastronomic stop close to both the North Sea and Filsø.

The kitchen garden, close to the plate

The inn’s 4,000-square-metre kitchen garden is more than decoration around the buildings. Tomatoes are grown in a polytunnel, among other things, and the garden is a central part of the restaurant’s ingredient supply. MICHELIN also highlights that the inn grows as many vegetables as possible without pesticides and makes its own products, such as bacon, sausages, butter and cheese.

An inn with an old-fashioned exterior

The history dates back to 1790, when travellers were served simple home cooking, beer and spirits. Later, the inn became known for French cuisine and subsequently as a gourmet restaurant. During modernisation, the façade was preserved, while an almost entirely new building was created behind the original outer wall.
