Hattebjerget is a viewpoint in Nyminde Plantage, where the walk ends with a wide-open view. From the platform at the top, the landscape opens up across Nymindestrømmen, Gammelgab, and the southwestern part of Ringkøbing Fjord. It is a place where the plantation’s darker pine trees meet the flatter, lighter coastal landscape to the west.
The viewpoint is located by Søren Hats Vej and on the yellow hiking route in Nyminde. The route passes through forest, dune heaths, and forest bogs, and around Hattebjerget the western part is characterized by mountain pine scrub, while the forest farther inland is more sheltered. This makes for a walk with clear shifts in light, terrain, and views.
Nymindestrømmen was formerly the outlet of Ringkøbing Fjord, and over the centuries the watercourse has shifted along the coast. In the southernmost part, the stream has become a series of freshwater lakes, while the area around Gammel Gab consists of dunes, dune heaths, and dune hollows. From Hattebjerget, you therefore see not only water and forest, but also traces of a coastal landscape that has never quite stood still.
