Haltrup Heath

Memorial Stone on Haltrup Heath

The memorial stone on Haltrup Heath stands as a slightly ironic trace in the landscape: It was erected in memory of a married couple who cleared the heath and planted trees.

Today, nature management is working in the opposite direction. Mountain pine and new growth are being removed so that the open heath landscape with heather, crowberry, lingonberry and juniper can return. The stone makes the landscape’s changes visible: heath, forest – and heath on its way back.

Bench set with a view over the heath

At one of the high points on Haltrup Heath, a table with benches stands as a simple stop on the red hiking route. From here, the terrain opens up to the east across dwarf shrubs and heath flats and down toward the lower, more bog-like landscape.

The view is also connected to the management of the heath, where natural values are kept open and overgrowth is counteracted. It is not a major tourist facility, but a local resting place with sand, low vegetation, and enough openness for the landscape to feel calm.
