Gråsten Palace Gardens

At the end of the 18th century, the Baroque garden was transformed into a romantic garden with winding paths, large lawns, flowering shrubbery and woodland areas.

Queen Ingrid, and after her HM The Queen, further developed the romantic garden into a colourful landscaped flower garden.

Enjoy the beautiful views as you walk along the winding paths. There are views of the surrounding landscape with forests, lakes and babbling streams, which complement the garden’s flower-filled shrubs, perennial beds and rose beds.

The Carp Ponds

The country’s last active breeding facility for carp for consumption is located in Gråsten, where carp ponds have existed for at least 300 years. You can find the old carp ponds in the forest right next to the palace garden.

The Danish Nature Agency runs the breeding extensively in the old ponds. There are eight ponds, which are emptied in turn every third or fourth year. If there are enough carp, they are sold locally around Christmas.
