Gammelgab Beach

The name Gammelgab comes from Ringkøbing Fjord's old mouth, i.e. its outlet into the North Sea. The current was strong at the time because the water from Skjern Å had to pass through. But when the canal at Hvide Sande was put into use in 1931, the opening silted up.

The remains of the fjord's outlet can be seen today as a series of small and large lakes.

The rugged dune areas at Gammelgab Beach are a popular area for horse enthusiasts.
