The birdwatching tower at Skjernåvej, located on the road between Lønborg and Skjern, is one of the most frequently used viewpoints, offering excellent views over Hestholm Lake in both westerly and easterly directions.
The large, wheelchair-accessible birdwatching tower not only offers an impressive view of Hestholm Lake and the grazing meadows, but also provides the opportunity to park your car and walk along the dikes located a little north of the car park by Hestholm Lake. The tower is also well worth a visit, even if you are not interested in birds but simply wish to enjoy the beautiful view.
Since 2010, the white-tailed eagle has bred in the area around the river valley and can be seen daily foraging in the western part of the river valley.
The dot at the top of the photo is a white-tailed eagle, which has caused the large flocks of geese to take flight.
The day before this photo was taken, a Black-winged Pratincole had been observed. It flew around the tower almost as if putting on a display. Word spread quickly, and many bird enthusiasts had gathered in the tower with their large binoculars, readily sharing their knowledge.
More than 265 bird species have been observed in the area. All year round, impressive numbers of cormorants, grey herons, mute swans, greylag geese, coots and many species of ducks can be seen.
