Wetlands and birdlife offer a calm natural contrast to Felanitx's inland town life.
Felanitx has its natural focal point around Plaça d’Espanya, also known as Plaça de ses Palmeres. Here the town’s commerce and social life come together, and the square has long been a place where everyday life, market days and local festivities meet. Around the center there are also bars, eateries and shops, so the town functions more like a living community than a backdrop.
The town is located in Mallorca’s southeast inland, about 50 kilometers from Palma, and Felanitx belongs to the wine region DO Pla i Llevant de Mallorca. Vineyards, local food products and restaurants are therefore part of the town’s identity. Capers are often mentioned as a local specialty, but the strongest evidence in the material points especially to wine, olive oil and markets as the most certain food themes.
A walk through Felanitx can be built around the traditional Mallorcan streets and the Sant Miquel church, which was built between the 16th and 17th centuries and contains several architectural styles. Outside the town itself are some of the municipality’s notable cultural-historical destinations, including Santuari de Sant Salvador and Castell de Santueri. From the town you can sense the contrast between the daily rhythm of the squares and the landscape of fields, almond trees and vineyards that begins just beyond the streets.
