1.0 kmAndratx Market
Wednesday outing with market, stalls, and a café stop right by CCA Andratx.
CCA Andratx is located in Sa Coma near Andratx, approximately a 30-minute drive from Palma. It is a large centre for contemporary art, where a visit is about more than just works on the wall: it also encompasses the building, the gardens and the workplace for artists behind the exhibitions.
The exhibition spaces are high and flexible, with concrete floors, white walls and lighting that can be adapted to the programme. Contemporary art by local and international artists is shown here, and the programme may also include concerts and other cultural activities. The café-restaurant serves light, homemade meals with a seasonally changing menu, allowing the venue to function as a peaceful cultural break rather than just a quick gallery stop.
The Artist-in-Residence programme is a central part of CCA Andratx. Each month, four international artists can work on site for a month, and one Saturday a month the centre holds Open Studios, where visitors can meet the current artists. Open Studios is advertised as having free admission from 11.00-14.00, but the time and admission details should be checked, as the programme may change.
The centre was founded by Jacob and Patricia Asbæk and therefore has a clear Danish connection within an otherwise international artistic profile. Outside, Sa Coma features a valley, terraces and pine-covered mountains at the foot of the Tramuntana.
