Bordrup Dune Plantation

Sand drift was a major problem in West Jutland. The sand could be kept in check by planting heather, marram grass and sand ryegrass; later, conifers were planted. The first conifers were planted in Ulfslo in Bordrup Dune Plantation as far back as 1856. The dune itself covers a full 350 hectares and measures up to 5 km. Today, the large pine forest is used, among other things, for military exercises, but the dune plantation is also known for its popular mountain bike trails.

At Ulfslo in Bordrup Dune Plantation, a stone has been erected in memory of the planter who carried out the first planting. Steps lead up to two high points, from where there is a fine view and you can get an impression of Denmark’s largest parabolic dune.

In the dune plantation, three scenic MTB routes of varying length and difficulty have been laid out, so the whole family can enjoy a fun afternoon on their bikes.

The plantation’s marked hiking routes are also well visited. Parts of the popular plantation have been left as untouched forest, and the area around Ulfslo in particular offers beautiful walks along the established paths. In the southern part, the forest can be explored on horseback.

In 1997, the Lithuanian woodcarver Julius Urbanavisius, together with his wife, created the wooden sculpture of the dune planter.
