Memorial Stone for Freedom Fighters

The memorial stone was erected at the site where, in 1943, the Germans secretly buried 6 young Danes who had been executed for sabotage. The six freedom fighters had taken part in sabotage against railways and German-friendly businesses.

The burial on Kallesmærsk Hede near Blåvand was kept secret. Even the relatives were unaware of the location, which was not marked in any way. Only after the war did a German officer help locate the site. In May 1945, the executed men were dug up and taken to their hometowns to receive a proper burial.

The memorial stone was erected in 1952 and for 600 years had served as a doorstep stone at Sct. Jacobi Church in Varde.

The memorial stone stands on the edge of the military area on the heath, and although there is public access to the site, it is not entirely easy to reach, as you have to pass through a wooded area where driving is not permitted.

Follow the signs: Memorial Stone

From the parking lot by Blåvandvej, the forest road Nordkrogen is signposted to the Memorial Stone. In the forest, first turn right onto Kolonnevej and later left. Follow the sign: "Memorial Stone".

Husbjerg Dune

Husbjerg Dune is a 25 m high dune located in the southwestern part of Kallesmærsk Hede. A path leads from Kolonnevej to the top of the dune, from where there is a magnificent view of the terrain.
