Ballum Church is a very beautiful church, surrounded by well-maintained houses in the small village. The village houses stand right up against the churchyard, creating an enclosed space around the church.
The church’s chancel and apse were built in Romanesque style around 1150, and the nave was built approx. 50 years later. The 31-metre-high tower of red brick is Late Gothic, from around the year 1500. All the church roofs are covered with lead.
Contributing to the well-maintained town is the fact that the A.P. Møller Foundation has provided grants for the renovation of the houses. Ballum is almost a little gem in an area that could otherwise have been affected by “outskirts decline”.
