Welcome to the Copenhageners’ plantation Baldersbæk. After the war in 1864 and the loss of Southern Jutland, there was strong popular support for afforestation on the Jutland heaths.
On the initiative of wholesaler and manufacturer Holger Pedersen, the most exhausted soils were purchased by wealthy Copenhageners in order to cultivate the heath, provide work for the local population, and create recreational areas for the owners themselves—this is how the “Copenhageners’ plantations” came into being.
Baldersbæk was first planted by Holger Petersen in 1891 and today features varied nature, flora, and fauna. The villa lies at the centre of a beautiful landscaped area with ponds, statues, fountains, etc. The cultivated grounds by the villa transition into the open nature of the river valley.
Enjoy your walk around the area!
