Assenbæk Mill

The area around the old Assenbæk Mill is a well-functioning scout center as well as a scenic area for a walk. As early as 1914, the mill that gave the area its name was closed down, and since then the site has been used for agriculture, as a plant nursery, and later as a hunting estate until the scouts took over the site in 1962.

The center and its facilities can be rented year-round by scouts, private individuals, companies, schools, and other institutions.

Benedikte Bridge

Benedikte Bridge makes it possible to cross Kybæk with dry feet. The bridge got its name because Princess Benedikte inaugurated and crossed the bridge during a large scout camp in 1976.

The bridge is located at the bottom of a meltwater channel, and beneath the bridge runs Kybæk, which is one of the many natural springs in the area. The bridge was renovated by volunteers in 2014 and connects Assenbæk with Letbæk, and thus the trail systems of the two areas.

The old mill

The original mill burned down in 1870 and was rebuilt a few years later. On the right is the sunken mill house, which has now been demolished.

The mill has been known since the 16th century. In 1699, the mill is mentioned as a small water mill with such a meagre water supply that the mill had to rest for four days after half a day of grinding.

Things later improved, and in the mid-1800s production of wadmal began. The watermill now had plenty of water and a two-metre drop. In the late 1800s and until it was closed down, the mill was used for bone stamping (bone meal for feed and fertilisation) as well as potato starch production.

Folk Skovlund
