Arnbjerg Park is located as a green oasis in central Varde. The park is part of a larger area known as “Skansen in Varde”. The area got its name because a memorial stone was once erected with the inscription: “Here, Allenstein’s soldiers threw up a redoubt in 1627”.
The park serves as a gathering place for the town’s residents and as a park where there are always plenty of activities.
Varde Miniature Town is located in Arnbjergparken. Here you can see what the market town of Varde looked like in 1866. The miniature town is built from real bricks at a scale of 1:10. At present, there are around 300 houses as well as the town’s churches and other public buildings in the miniature town.
In the park you will also find Varde Open-Air Stage, which is an amphitheatre. This is where the biggest event of the year is held, namely Varde Summer Play, where an outdoor performance is staged every year with actors from 7-kanten. In addition, the annual musical event Open Air Varde is also held here, where young and old gather to hear music from contemporary artists.
A focal point in the park is the Arnbjerg Pavilion. For many years, gymnastics displays were held here and dancing took place, so the pavilion served as a gathering place for the town’s residents. Today, the beautiful building still stands, but is used as a hotel.
Arnbjergpakken rummer meget historie. Der er således etableret en mindelund i den østlige del af parken til for at ære dem, som ofrede deres liv under 2. verdenskrig.
