The picnic shelter in Agervig Lund is not a major attraction, but a quiet resting place in a small clearing. The forest is close enough to provide shelter and atmosphere, while the slopes down toward Skonager Lilleå remind you that the place lies on the edge of a valley.
It is especially a place for a short stop: a packed lunch, a break with children, or a small nature stop for locals who want to get away from the road without planning a whole outing. The shelter makes the place useful, even when the weather cannot quite make up its mind.
Agervig Lund and Biltoft Lund are described as a narrow belt of scrub on the north side of the Skonager Lilleå valley. The landscape is therefore not a large forest area, but a transition between deciduous forest, meadow and cultivated fields.
For the botanically curious, the area has recorded common oak, bramble, wood strawberry, mayflower, rowan, wild apple and male fern. This gives the place a somewhat uneven and local character, more grove than park.
Skonager Lilleå is one of the larger tributaries of the Varde Å, and the watercourse has also been part of efforts to combat iron ochre impact. That is not something you necessarily see at the picnic shelter, but it gives the valley an additional explanation: nature here is both part of everyday life and changing.
